The new hydrogen plant at Pilkington UK’s Greengate Works site in St Helens would provide the manufacturer with up to seven tonnes of zero-emission hydrogen each day.

Neil Syder has a long history with glass – and with the company of which he is now Managing Director – owing to his family’s association with Pilkington UK, which began with his grandfather’s employment as a Warehouse Manager at the firm’s Cowley Hill Works.

Pilkington United Kingdom Limited, part of the NSG Group, has appointed Neil Syder to managing director to lead the glass manufacturer as it adapts to an age of decarbonisation and targets new opportunities. Neil brings over 30 years’ experience within the company to the post.

Because of its increased strength, Pilkington Toughened Glass allows architects and builders far greater scope in their use of glass in buildings. It meets worldwide safety standards for glass subjected to accidental human impact at the highest level of severity.

Pilkington United Kingdom Limited, part of the NSG group, has successfully manufactured architectural glass at its St Helens facility using hydrogen power in a world-first trial.
