New pavilion of McDonald's restaurant in Rotterdam wins Iconic Awards 2015.

New modern pavilion of McDonald's restaurant in Rotterdam is an example of architecture perfectly blended in the historical buildings of the city center. The fully glazed facade, made of extra clear Pilkington Optiwhite™, opens the view to the monumental post office located behind the restaurant and gives the impression that public space penetrates the building.

Due to the large size of glass panels, the architects from the design office Mei Architects and Planners decided to use laminated safety glass Pilkington Optilam™ OW. In the case of impact the glass breaks, but thanks to PVB interlayers it remains intact, thus protecting from injury.

The new McDonald’s pavilion on Coolsingel Rotterdam designed by Mei architects and planners won the Iconic Awards 2015 ‘The whole world of architecture’ – category Architecture. The Iconic Awards is an international Architecture and Design Award for architects and designers, organized by the German Design Council. According to the organization, the winner is an “independent symbol of quality and contemporary developments with an excellent international reputation”.
