The Step into the Void attraction in the Mont Blanc Massif mountain range hangs a kilometre above the Chamonix Valley.

Suspended above a 3842 m sheer drop, the Chamonix Skywalk is a new tourist attraction located on the Aiguille du Midi peak, France. Billed as Europe’s tallest attraction, the skywalk offers superb views, consist of a five sided cube constructed from three layers of 12 mm thick Pilkington Optiwhite™.

The installation, which opened to the public on the 21st December 2013, took three years to develop by Compagnie du Mont Blanc and has the ability to endure a temperature range of 60°C and winds of up to 136 mph.

Toughened and laminated extra clear Pilkington Optiwhite™, the glass product specified for this concept, is ideal for providing both impact resistance and security. Its composition of glass and interlayers can be altered to suit specific applications, offering architects and specifiers a solution for increased safety or security, noise control, solar control, UV screening, privacy and decoration.
