Reducing heat from the sun

Having too much heat or light enter through the window during the warmer months can present as much of a problem as trying to keep heat in during the colder ones. Anyone who has installed a conservatory on a South facing wall will testify to the high temperatures they have to endure. Fortunately you do not have to sacrifice good energy efficiency to reduce the heat from the sun because we can combine both in one product.

Control of the sun's heat can be achieved in a number of ways. The most popular is by using a body tinted glass such at the Pilkington Optifloat ™ Tint range or Pilkington Arctic Blue™ which simply reduce incoming heat transmission. A similar effect can be achieved using a sandwich of glass with a tinted interlayer Pilkington Optilam™ I Colour. For higher levels of performance a coated glass such as the Pilkington Eclipse Advantage™ or the Pilkington Suncool™ ranges can be used and can either look clear or coloured.
You just need to decide what level of light transmission and solar heat reduction you require.

It is extremely important to realise that ANY solar control glass product will only reduce the rate of solar gain and that solar control glass products do not work in isolation. Adequate ventilation must be incorporated into the conservatory to prevent the reduced solar gain building up to an uncomfortable level.
