This was achieved in the form of a three-storey atrium, created using the Pilkington Planar™ structural glazing system. The space sits between the two major elements of the building and is enclosed by a 12.8 metre tall vertical entrance screen and glazed roof.

The final design uses distinctive, custom-made fins – some bronze and some stone – along with projecting lantern glass boxes and a grand double height entrance leading to a full height atrium to create a building that is unapologetically modern.

The Pilkington Suncool™ range combines in one coating efficient thermal properties with some of the lowest Ug values achievable in insulating glass units and a broad range of solar-control options. With so much glass being used in a curtain wall the solar-gain can be high unless it is controlled.

Glazing plays a key role in the £8.5 million scheme, both aesthetically and in terms of its use of energy. At the heart of the building is a large atrium with a full-height glass front elevation and a glazed roof running right to the back of the space.
